A local woman says she found a loaded handgun in the back of a squad car. Peoria police say it sounds alarming, but they do not believe officers did anything wrong.

Officer Doug Burgess says 25-year-old Starceya Johnson was being questioned for a disturbance and was only in the car because it was raining.

Police involved say there was no gun in the back seat before she got in, but she says she didn't put it there.

"Anytime that it gets out there a weapon wasn laying in a vehicle, people draw their own conclusions-oh it was just laying there. We certainly don't want that to be people's first opinion."

Starceya Johnson has been arrested more than 20 times since 2004. She told police she is currently being investigated by DCFS.

This incident comes two months after a suspect snuck a loaded gun into the Peoria County Jail.
