ST. PAUL, Minn -- The eight day, eight state race challenged students to design, build, and race solar cars across the country.
On Wednesday, team Mercury ran into problems when one of their nickel metal hydride batteries overheated during an overnight stop in Normal.
Team President Jeff Deters said the group was able to finish the race by relying on the sun and stopping more often to charge their remaining battery.
So, the team pushed on and Saturday, they arrived in Saint Paul, Minnesota finishing the race in 7th place with a total time of 102:26:59.
The team hopes to build a new battery pack and make wiring adjustments to compete in the race again in 2014.
