PEORIA, Ill. -- Island construction just north of the McCluggage Bridge on the Illinois River has been on hold.

Right now all that is visible are some platforms and the crane that is being used for the construction.

An engineer working on the project says it will be delayed until river levels decrease, but says he does not expect it to drastically alter the island's completion.

"We'll go out there and take a look and make sure there's no scour or debris that needs to be cleaned up and proceed with the project. Right now we don't expect any impact though. It goes under water and then comes back," said Jeff Scukanec, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

Construction of the island is scheduled to be complete sometime later this year.
