Members of the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois (GSCI) are preparing to deliver 78,000 boxes of cookies over the next couple weeks.

Operation Cookie Share allows customers to not only support their local Girl Scouts, but also the military.

The Girl Scouts will be shipping a whopping 60,000 boxes of cookies to troops overseas.

The local membership specialist says selling cookies is also good for the girls.

"I like to eat girl scout cookies, but I think it's a great way for the girls to learn financial responsibility and also get their faces out into the community," said Kerry Kluzek, the Peoria-Area GSCI Membership Specialist.

"Some of the girls will go to camp. Some will use it for activities that they've decided upon as a troop, and others will even donate a portion of their profit."

Directors say one way the Girl Scouts get involved with the community is by selling treats at designated "cookie booths."
