PEORIA, Ill. -- Lawyers all across Illinois are stepping out of the courtroom to help people facing hunger in Illinois.
The Illinois State Bar Association joined with the organization "Feeding Illinois" to start a campaign and collect meals for eight food banks in the state.
Lawyers and legal organizations all over Illinois created teams and are competing to collect food and funds in a campaign they call "Lawyers Feeding Illinois".
As of Thursday, over 90 teams have formed and collaboratively collected 400,000 meals. The goal is to provide one million meals by the end of their campaign on March 1.
The President of the Illinois State Bar Association, John Thies, and other members of Lawyers Feeding Illinois toured the food bank in Peoria on Thursday.
"It is a bunch of people coming together with real good intentions to try to make a difference and to try to address a very serious societal problem," Thies said.
