In the U-S, we say "Bud" or "Pal". In the UK, "chap" is a very specific kind of person, and now, in London, there's a competition just for them.

"The thing is Chaps don't really like to do sport. Chaps like to drink Martinis, smoke pipes and cavort around in their finest clothing. So we thought why not create some sporting events which will actually allow them to compete against each other but not break a sweat or uncrease their trousers," Gustave Temple, "the Chap" Magazine.

Competitions including sauntering and flask-drinking while sauntering.

Meanwhile, also in London, a number of folks were putting their best foot backwards.

It was the first "London Backward Running championships".

Many say that running backwards puts a unique spin on the the possibility was running into a tree.

Some on the one-mile run say they hope it'll become an Olympic sport.
