PEORIA, Ill -- As construction and demolition for the new Marriott Pere Marquette Hotel gets underway this week, Peoria city officials say they are already seeing ripple effects.

At large city council member Eric Turner says the city has been approached by companies that could potentially locate in downtown Peoria once the new Marriott is built.

Turner said, "I've heard a lot of good things already that there are other businesses that are interested now in coming to Peoria, businesses that are interested in locating downtown because they'll have that synergy that'll be created from the hotel. So I think in the long term this is gonna be great for the city of Peoria."

Turner says due to the confidential nature of talks and agreements the city is negotiating, he can not release the names of those businesses.
