Chillicothe's police chief is on paid administrative leave following his arrest on domestic battery and criminal trespass charges.
Peoria county sheriff's deputies took 53-year-old Steve Maurer into custody Wednesday evening without incident.
The longtime chief allegedly injured a woman by pushing the door of her home into her wrist.
Chiilicothe's mayor says the assistant chief, Sergeant Richard Mark, is now in charge of the police department pending further investigation.
Maurer's bond was reduced to 100-dollars.
