PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis took some time after the council meeting Tuesday night to discuss a possible 'saggy pants' ordinance that is in the pipeline for the city.
The proposal would ban people from wearing saggy pants in public.
Mayor Ardis said the city's legal department is working on wording and enforcement.
He said the ordinance does not target certain people, but certain behaviors.
"It's about respect. It's about decency," said Ardis. "I don't think that it's overbearing. I don't think that it's an overreach on the city council. I think it's something appropriate for us to address."
The mayor expects to have a community discussion about the issue before it is voted on. He thinks that will be within the next 30 days.
