Sheriff's deputies in McLean County have arrested 23 year old David Gharrett of Chenoa in connection with the death of a 3 year old child.

Gharrett is suspected of the beating death of little Destiny Cox.

Authorities were dispatched to a residence in Chenoa on report that a three year old child was found unresponsive.

Cox was rushed to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal before being taken by life-flight to the Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.

She died at the hospital Friday night.

Authorities say that due to the nature of the call and the age of the child, an investigation was opened immediately.

The Peoria County coroner says the child died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head and abdomen which appear to be non-accidental.

Gharrett is expected in McLean County Court on Wednesday.
