PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria's newest restaurant, Smashburger, held a soft opening Tuesday, featuring a special guest cook.

The restaurant features burgers made to order along with salads, chicken and beer.

Smashburger is one of several new restaurants opening in the Metro Centre.

To celebrate, Bradley Basketball Head Coach Geno Ford stopped by to smash the very first burger.

The Coach says he was out of his element, requiring some coaching from the cooks themselves.

" I can't believe the amount of things that I needed to remember and forgot after being taught how to do it. Kind of like our players. You tell them something they may or may not remember but fortunately he was there whispering in my ear what the next move was and we got through it," said Bradley Basketball Coach Geno Ford.

The new Smashburger is located on University street, it officially opens to the public Wednesday.
