District 150 decided in late March not to renew the Edison contract, but Northmoor Edison Primary School's principal isn't leaving the Edison program behind.

Students, faculty and parents spent this afternoon saying goodbye to their principal of 9 years, Dr. Nicole Wood.

Northmoor Edison celebrated the last day of school each year, but this year held a couple surprises for Dr. Wood including individual cards from the students and a surprise visit from her first kindergarten class who are now high school juniors.

Dr. Wood is leaving the school, but staying with Edison, and she says the change is bittersweet.

"I have just accepted a position," says Wood. "I'm the Executive Director of Leadership for our entire company, so I'm really excited about that and I'm excited for the opportunity and the challenge to help other principals all over and try to make a difference like we've done here in Peoria."

Dr. Wood says she will get to stay in Peoria and travel to other regions providing professional development.

Parents we spoke with say they hope Northmoor Primary will maintain its concentration on art and technology.

It is rumored that school board members will place a new principal at the school during the next 150 meeting.
