"All Meat Comes From A Corpse". That's the message PETA members were looking to impress outside of Calihan Pork Processors in Peoria Tuesday.
Members of the activist group wrapped themselves in clear plastic and laid nearly naked on large trays in front of the processing plant in an effort to mimic meat packages.
The goal: to convince others that animals have similar senses and emotions as humans and possibly start thinking of pigs and cows the same way you'd think of your dog or cat.
"The animals who are raised for their flesh experience pain and terror just like we do. In fact pigs are just as intelligent as...dogs and cats. But we treat them in ways where if this abuse was taken out on an animal we share our homes with it would warrant felony cruelty to animal charges," said PETA member Matt Bruce.
According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity.
