Ryan Munge is this year's recipient of the Newman scholarship.

Each year, Doctor John Newman and his wife Chris give a $20,000 scholarship to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

U of I's President Emeritus handed out the award to this "outstanding" graduate.

"I have found that students from places like Pekin-- smaller communities-- tend to be very active in student government, in service work," said Dr. B. Joseph White, President Emeritus of U of I. "They tend to be big Fighting Illini fans, and they add a lot to our school spirit."

The winner Ryan Munge was involved in swimming and diving and multiple school clubs.

He also maintained close to straight A's throughout high school.
