A Pekin man is dead following a fishing trip in Fulton County over the weekend.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources

64-year-old St. Mark Sander Senior was fishing in the private Hiram Walker Lake in Middlegrove.

Sander went out about 10:30 Saturday morning. When he did not return by late evening, residents on the lake became concerned and called for help.

Early Sunday morning a dive team and Illinois Conservation Police found Sander's body in 19-feet of water.

The man was not wearing a life jacket, nor was there one in the boat.

"We see a lot of overloading issues on the water as well as simple boat equipment like they don't have enough life jackets or they put adult jackets on a child, so it is important if you are out on the water you have a jacket for everyone that is wearable and the correct size for that person," said Officer Scott Avery, Illinois Conservation police.

Sander's autopsy shows he died of drowning, with no signs of trauma.
