Citizen group founder Kim bowers says she's found out from well-connected sources that Pekin officials have been in talks with a Brazil based pork processing company...which approached the city about setting up shop in Pekin.
Monday night, several residents took to the podium, outraged at the prospect that city officials may be considering a pork plant.
Pekin mayor, Rusty Dunn says the council has the same concerns as everyone else.
He says although there's no reason for him to discuss speculative projects, he read a letter he recently sent to a concerned citizen about the information going around town.
Dunn says if any large scale project were to get approved, there would be ample opportunity for public discussion and extensive work done on part of the city council before it could take shape.
Although the Pekin mayor still neither confirms nor deniesa pork plant could come to Pekin.
