PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria High School Cheerleaders are back home from what many call 'the trip of a lifetime' to sunny Florida.

The Central Cheerleaders performed during halftime at the Florida Gator Bowl this past weekend.

Their trip was made possible by community donations and several fundraisers.

The Cheerleaders practiced for weeks prior to the trip.

Not only did they perform, but they also competed for top honors with seven other schools.

They ended up taking fourth place, but say the experience was well worth it.

"It was fun. I had a great time, and the weather was nice. The teams were nice. Most of them. And, it was a good experience. Like bonding with the other teams that was fun and meeting new people. That's always fun," says Nicole Robinson, PHS Cheerleaders Co-Captain.

"We had a Hawaii team, a team from Hawaii that was there, and Pennsylvania and bonding with them. Really feeling welcomed," says Gina Dailey, PHS Cheerleading Coach.

The Peoria High Cheerleaders say they're looking forward to the possibility of making another trip to a high profile National event, and will be up for the challenge if and when the opportunity presents itself.
