As the Village of Peoria Heights gears up for the elections April 5th, residents got a chance to meet their candidates Wednesday night.
The candidates included those running for the District #325 school board, Illinois Central College board of trustees, and Peoria Heights trustees.
Village trustee candidates addressed what they would bring to the table if elected.
They were also asked questions on topics like traffic issues, keeping paid versus volunteer emergency responders, and improvements to the Keller Branch Trail.
They also shared their ideas on new development in the Heights.
"We do need to expand parking areas around here," said candidate Bryan Lammers. "We have to look at access and egress. We have to look at how favorable the community is toward new businesses coming in."
"I would like to see the property down on War Memorial Drive, where the houses used to be. I'd like to see something go in there," said candidate Debra Reichert. "I'm not really too particular about what it would be but something that would generate revenue for the Heights."
"I'd kind of like to see more restaurant geared towards modest income families like my own," said Jeff Goett, incumbent trustee candidate.
"Whatever the economy can support should come visit the Village of Peoria Heights," said incumbent candidate Bryan Harn/ Incumbent. "We will give you a good deal here."
Sales tax rates in Peoria Heights are lower than those in the City of Peoria and surrounding areas.
Four of the six candidates were present at the meeting Wednesday.
The other two Peoria Heights Village Trustee candidates, not present at the meeting, include Charles Gauf and David Parkinson.
