Students at Peoria Notre Dame now shuffle through a school that was built in the 1960's, but in a few years that will all change.
"Five years ago there was study commission called the Reid study about the future of where we as secondary catholic education should locate," said Peoria Notre Dame Principal Charlie Roy.
"The school had received a gift of 44 acres of land so our plan long term, for the viability of the school is to move the entire school to the northern site."
The new site will be located behind Resurrection Cemetary across from Allen Road and consist of both a new school and new athletic facility.
Phase one will be the construction of the Athletic facility, due to a more immediate need..
Peoria Notre currently has one gym that at times has had manage up to six sports team schedules in the winter season.
"Academics are a huge part of what we do, but the immediate operating need is tied to the shortcomings we have in terms of space for athletic facilities," Roy said.
The new facility looks to have at least 3 full athletic courts. Notre Dame athletic Director says the new facility is a dream come true.
"To have a desire to have two baseball fields, two softball fields and are own tennis courts, and are own football stadium some day, it's very exciting for us," said Athletic Director, Matt Blackford.
"The closer we get to that I suppose the more excited we get"
And all these changes will come at little cost to students and their parents. Notre Dame is doing creative fundraising and does not expect to see significant tuition increases.
Peoria Notre Dame hopes to break ground on the athletic site this August and should be open in the spring of 2013.
