The Peoria County Coroner says officers found the victim, 21-year-old Maurice Morris, with multiple gunshot wounds in the yard of the home at 1302 NE Jefferson.

The Peoria County Coroner says Morris was immediately take to OSF St. Francis, but died during surgery just after 9pm.

Autopsy results tonight confirm that the city of Peoria's first homicide victim died from -multiple- gunshot wounds.

According to a witness, as the victim ran towards the home and collapsed, two black males were seen standing at the corner of Spring of Jefferson, one of them described as 5'7, 180 pounds with dreadlocks.

Police say no suspects have been named in this year's first homicide.

"It's not a big problem area," said Officer Doug Burgess. "We don't see a lot of shootings in this area opposed to other areas. It's early in the year. I don't know how many shootings we've had this year, but the numbers are fairly low."

Anyone with information on this homicide is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 673-4521 or Crime Stoppers at 673-9000.
