A group of students received a special message Monday, straight from behind the walls of prison.

'Put down the guns and raise up the love ' are the words that Ron Willis delivered in his inspirational speech to Mark W. Bills Middle School.

Willis, better known to the community as Coach Ron, drew on his own experiences as well as those of former inmates.

He says the Hip-Hop culture has to stop promoting violence through their music and instead focus on creativity and education.

"I want the kids in Peoria to know that when you make choices with guns that you get a lot of time. I don't want to see them go to prison like I had to. I want to see them go to higher learning" Coach Willis.

To get his point across, Willis brought in Hip-Hop performers who played music with a clean and positive message.

The visit at Mark W Bills Middle School Is one of several stops in Peoria.
