Scripps National Spelling Bee

The most famous spelling bee of all in underway and the competition is F - I - E - R - C- E.

275 spellers from across the nation participated in the preliminary rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Wednesday.

Spellers are vying for over $30,000 in cash, prizes and scholarships and of course an engraved trophy.

Representing Central Illinois, is 14 year-old Phillip Copeland from Dunlap Valley Middle School.

Unfortunately, Copeland did not make it to the semi-finals.

The nail biting competition concludes Thursday.
