The Checkered Flag Drops for Go-Kart Racing in Peoria

Central Illinois Racers will no longer have to travel for their need for speed.

The Peoria Exposition Gardens is now home to a professional go-kart racing track.

The Expo Motor Speedway started as an idea among friends last year and is quickly becoming a reality.

Iron Hustler Excavating is donating time and equipment for the project.

Co-Promoter, Rick Miller, says the professional help is what will set this track apart from others, "Good quality track needs good dirt. Good quality clay that packable. We have to water the track before each race and pack it making a good hard surface. We can't have runts and bumps because go-karts only sit about a inch of the ground. It would turn people away if we have a rough track."

The Expo Motor Speedway will open this Sunday for practice runs.

The first race is scheduled for April 17th
