PEKIN, Ill. -- Thousands of Central Illinois residents made it to Pekin's 40th Annual Marigold Festival on Saturday.
More than 100 floats made their way down Court Street in Pekin to kick off this weekend's festivities.
And some familiar faces strolled by, including HOI-19's Eric Greene taking a ride on the News 25/HOI 19 Live Truck.
Following the parade, visitors made their way to Mineral Springs Park, where they could enjoy carnival rides, beach volleyball and "Art in the Park".
First-time chairman of the event, Shannon Sandoval, said it was a dream to co-organize the festival, which she has been a part of her entire life.
"I've never known a time when there wasn't a Marigold Festival in Pekin," said Sandoval. "I was Miss Marigold when I was 16, which was a few years ago. It is definitely full circle for me. It's really neat to come from that side of it and be where I am today. It's very meaningful and very neat."
The Marigold Festival runs through Sunday.
