15 Year old Michael Hallor of Canton died Wednesday morning just after 8 o'clock. According to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll, Michael Hallor, his father Frank and a friend were returning to their vehicle from ice fishing when the ice gave way beneath them.
Rescue workers pulled the father and son who fell in Banner Marsh late Tuesday afternoon.
The Peoria County dive team found the boy after searching for more than an hour and a half. Life Flight transported him to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Conservation Police Sgt. James Byron is unsure how thick the ice could have been, "As far as actual thickness of the ice, what it is right now, I don't know. We've had some warm weather of late, and with the snow it insulates. But we had some really cold weather leading up to it. Ice will freeze quick."
The teenage boy was found in an area approximatley 15 feet deep.
Law enforcement officials from the Conservation police, Peoria County, Timber Holis and Copperas Creek were involved in the rescue.
