Those in Central Illinois looking to beat the sweltering summer heat may soon have a new option for staying cool.
Monday night, Morton village officials approved a $22,000 contract with a Texas-based firm to conduct a study on water parks across the U.S., like the one pictured here.
The goal- to determine whether Morton is a plausible market for a large indoor water park and family entertainment complex.
Officials say the complex would complement other examples of economic growth in Central Illinois.. One in particular.
"With the Bass Pro coming to town, to East Peoria, that's going to attract another million visitors, they're estimating, and again we want to try and keep those visitors in our region," said Kim Uhlig of the Morton Chamber of Commerce.
Village officials say the study should be completed within the next four months.
