BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-- Police arrested 23 year-old Amanda R. Robbins of Bloomington following an attempted child abduction Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 12:15 Wednesday afternoon the McLean County Sheriff's Office was notified of a possible child abduction attempt on Dreamwold Street in southeast rural Bloomington.

According to officials a 4 year-old child had walked to the mailbox when Robbins came out from behind a bush, grabbed the child and started running from the area. The child's grandmother then ran after the woman yelling for her to release the child. Police say Robbins then released the child and fled the area.

Deputies were able to locate Robbins from information provided by residents.

Robbins was not known by the victim or the victim's grandmother and the attempt is being labeled as a Stranger Abduction.

Robbins is being held in the McLean County Detention Facility pending formal charges of Child Abduction and Kidnapping.
