PEORIA, Ill -- When parents are expecting a child, they often go through months of planning. But sometimes nothing can prepare for them for that moment when the baby decides to come.
Emergency Room Nurse Suzi Barry Friday met the baby she help deliver. Thursday outside of UnityPoint Health Proctor, Barry opened the doors of the emergency room to shouts of help.
"A gentleman ran up to the emergency department and needed help and we got to the car and he said his wife was having a baby and so I assisted in the delivery," Barry said.
A day later both mother, Saeko Nagai, and baby Jo are happy and healthy.
"Everybody is very kind so we are very appreciative," said the father, Tomoki Nagai.
Amazingly enough this isn't the first time the couple has experienced turmoil during childbirth. While living in Japan in 2011, mother Saeko Nagai was in the hospital for a pregnancy check-up when an earthquake hit.
Two and a half weeks later baby boy Hayato was born. Now the family of four is all together in the United States as one happy family.
