A Peoria-based FBI agent pleaded guilty Wednesday for making and preparing false documents.

The 44-year-old Jerry W. Nau was charged in United States District Court in Urbana, IL before Judge James Shadid.

Nau was accused of allegedly forging the names of two other law enforcement officers on a document stating some $43,000 had been seized from a drug dealer.

A Department of Justice official says they believed the drug money did exist, but its whereabouts are still unknown.

Nau faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he's sentenced in November.
