A pizza joint in Peoria is seeing success with its think crust recipe.
At lunch, its all-you-can-eat.
Eric Shangraw is at Double-A Pizza Sports Bar and Grill, in this week's You Gotta Eat.
Double-A Pizza is multifaceted. It's a sports bar with good grub. The pizza, with its skinny underside, is the signature item, no matter what you prefer on top.
"I like a lot of veggies. Has a lot of veggies. A lot of meat. Thin crust. Crispy. Just good pizza," said customer Elaine Rients.
"Thin crust. I like little sauce. So I always ask for less sauce. But they got a fantastic lunch buffet, too. Fantastic," said customer Nancy Eckhoff.
You'll see owner Aaron Smith or his wife here most times. One of his jobs is to keep the lunch buffet stocked. Aaron says the freshly prepared ingredients for the menu or buffet and the 19 televisions are just a part of the formula for success.
"More important than any of that is the fact we have great service," said Smith.
"That's the key to Double-A's. I think customer service is something that gets lost in this day and age. And we try to make sure when people come here that the service is extraordinary," he said.
We had the lunch buffet. The salad is crisp. The other stuff fresh. I also opted for a couple Teriyaki chicken wings as a warm-up. Photographer Doug Smith followed the same path. After stretching our jaws on the salad, it was time for a pizza run. There's four or five choices at any one time. Sausage. Pepperoni. Canadian bacon and pineapple. As the customers said, its the thin crust which makes it unique.
On our third trip we picked up some sweet dessert pizza. Doug went for a fourth trip... but we won't go there. No many how many trips, its one price at lunch. Our bill with drink; $9.79 apiece, plus tip.
Double-A should get straight A's from thin crust pizza lovers.
Double A's Pizza Sports Bar and Grill is open seven days a week. The lunch buffet is offered Monday through Friday.
