A new pub in Peoria is raising some eyebrows.
Next spring, a Tilted Kilt will open in Bloomington as well.
Eric Shangraw checks out the Tilted Kilt in this week's You Gotta Eat.
The Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery is a really good looking mutt. It's basically an American sports bar mixed with themes from England, Scotland and Ireland run with waitresses dressed in mini-kilts and small tops. The sexy-servers are trained to act like they're your new BFF.
"Instead of standing and taking an order, we grab a chair and pull-up. Make ourselves at home. Like we are going to eat with them," said waitress Missy Giamette.
"They are all cool. We always come here," said customer Eric White. "They always make us laugh. We make them laugh. We have some good times. I like it," White said.
Seventy-five percent of the customers are men. It's a formula similar to Hooters. But the Tilted Kilt has a richer atmosphere and broader meat and potatoes menu.
My old eating partner Don Washburn came to help with this assignment. Dubbs started with a Blue Moon. I had a wheat beer.
He ordered a top seller; the Gaelic Chicken. It is a pan seared chicken-breast with sauteed mushrooms and onions served with an Irish Whiskey cream sauce over a mound of garlic mashed potatoes. The old guy downed it with vigor.
I had Danny Boy's Shepherd's Pie. Great presentation. It comes in a miniature stew pot. Seasoned ground beef, carrots, peas and garlic mashed potatoes, Parmesan cheese and garlic bread.
The shepherd's pie pot was followed by the Tilted Guilt.
The Guilt is a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie served hot and gooey with ice cream and chocolate syrup.
The bill for our two beers, an appetizer, two-entrees, and decadent cookie dessert; $50.70 plus tip.
Most customers are initially drawn by the pretty girls. But they come back because of the fine pub grub and fun atmosphere.
The Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in Peoria is on North Grand Prairie Drive. They're open seven days a week starting at 11 a-m for lunch.
