Obituary for Walter J. Jatkowski WASHINGTON—Walter J. Jatkowski, 90, of Washington died at 12:14 AM on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his home.
Born Oct 6, 1920 to Clement and Mary Ann Kaciewicz Jatkowski in Gary, IN, he married Cecelia Jasiak on Aug 28, 1948 in Gary IN. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2003.
Surviving are 5 sons, Walt (Patricia) Jatkowski, Jr of Dunlap, Robert Jatkowski of Peoria, John (Kristy) Jatkowski of East Peoria, Ed (Linda) Jatkowski of Peoria, and Len (Kimberly) Jatkowski of Peoria Heights; 2 daughters, Cecelia (Joseph, Sr.) Pasquesi of Hawthorne Woods, IL, and Mary (Steve, Sr.) Trueblood of Washington; 19 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Smolinski of Hobart, IN.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and his parents.
Walter served in Civilian Conservation Corps and was a private first class in the US Army 44th Infantry Signal Corps serving in World War II. He worked at the USS Steel Mill in Gary, IN and attended the Dale Carnegie Course. He worked for the Campbell Soup Company as a district supervisor for 39 years before retiring in 1986. Walter was a lector for St. Patrick Church in Washington for 25 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Wed Feb 16, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. The Rev. Fr. Joseph Donton will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Tues, Feb 15 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, concluding with the rosary at 7:45 PM. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to mass on Wed at the church.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, where military rites will be accorded by the US Army and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
