Ayalew Kassa, 39, of East Peoria, passed away at 3:55am on June 16, 2012 at his residence.
Ayalew was born in Ethiopia to Kassa Gebeyehu and Medhanit Alemayehu. He married Tegist Leyew in Peoria, IL on March 11, 2004. She survives. They have two sons, Raey Ayalew Kassa and Joseph Ayalew Kassa.
Also surviving are his parents; his four brothers: Desalegne Kassa, Nigusse Kassa both of Chicago, Girma Kassa of Ethiopia, and Himanot Kassa of Cincinnati; two uncles: Melesse Gebeyehu of Los Angeles, California and Tsehay Alemayehu of Savannah, Georgia.
Ayalew was preceded in death by one sister, Emahoy Wolete Tinsae.
Ayalew earned his teaching degree in Ethiopia and taught Ethiopian History in high school. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1997 and earned a B.A. in Computer Science from Illinois State University in 2001 and his Master's Degree in the same field from Bradley University.
Ayalew started working at Caterpillar soon after he graduated from ISU and has been working there until his passing.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church, 2719 Northeast Madison Ave in Peoria, on Sunday, June 17th at 1pm.
A graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria on Monday, June 18th at 12:30pm.
Memorials may be made to an educational fund for his sons at CEFCU.
