PEKIN ~ Mary Lynn Norton, 82, of Pekin, passed away at 11:22 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She became ill while traveling.
Born December 23, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to George Delbert and Lillian (Britton) Holiman, she married Stanley Edward Norton on May 24, 1952 in Pekin. He died August 18, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Holiman.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Gretchen) Norton of Pekin and Daniel (Lisa) Norton of Effingham; one daughter, Amy (Jerry) Jackson of Pekin; six grandchildren, Thomas Norton, Erin Norton, Brooke Jackson, and Joel Jackson, all of Pekin, Alex Norton of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Adam Norton of Murphysboro; and two great-grandsons, Tristan Jackson and Hayden Jackson.
A homemaker, Mary had worked at Pekin Insurance as a receptionist during the 1950’s.
She was a member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter GW in Pekin, Pekin Country Club, Pekin Hospital League, First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin, and Orange Beach Presbyterian Church in Orange Beach, Alabama. She was an honorary board member of the Pekin Union Mission.
Mary enjoyed knitting, sewing, needlepoint, and in past years, singing. She was a huge baseball fan and enjoyed going to games of all ages.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. The Rev. Kristie Peterson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
