MANITO ~ Roy H. Flynn, 74, of Rural Route 1, Herod, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Saint John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was formerly of rural Manito.
Born May 25, 1938 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to William Luther and Florence Catherine (Robertson) Flynn, he married Janice Ann Gillenwater on March 11, 1974 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tammy Gail (Steve) Bailey of Easton and Amanda Jane (Matt) Rawlings of Herod; one son, Christopher William (Jennifer) Flynn of Pekin; eleven grandchildren; three sisters, Roberta Campbell of Pekin, Carol (Robert) Lumley of Ozark, Missouri, and Aleta Bennett of Forest City; two brothers, Aubrey Flynn of Green Valley and Kenneth (Vivian) Flynn of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonnie Campbell and Ruth Bianchi; and four nephews.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Roy had worked for the Spring Lake Fish and Wildlife in rural Manito as a site technician for 15 years. Previously, he worked at Corn Products Corporation in Pekin for several years.
He attended Honey Comb Church of God in Herod.
Roy enjoyed racing and riding horses, fishing, hunting, music, and singing.
There will be a service at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Honey Comb Church of God in Herod, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Pastor Harold Miller will officiate.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at First Assembly of God in Pekin, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Pastor Harold Miller will officiate. Burial will at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito where military rites will be accorded.
