Charles (Dick) R. Smith, age 79, of Chillicothe died on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 1:58 AM at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born on April 18, 1933 in Chillicothe the son of Van Z. and Alice G. (Kitzmiller) Smith. He married Nicolette Augustine in 1957 in Chillicothe.
Surviving are his children: Tracy (Jeff) Maddock of Ellicott City, MD, Cory (Lisa) Smith of Naperville, Chris (Kerry) Smith of Kansas City, MO, Monica (Paul) Loubet of Costa Mesa, CA and Andy (Jenny) Smith of Grand Blanc, MI; twenty one grandchildren; four sisters, Lorraine (Walt) Giugler of Chillicothe, Rosie (Al) Taylor of Palm Dessert, CA, Deloris Petty of Chillicothe and Carmen (Don) Biddison of Chillicothe; and two brothers, Bob (Pat) Smith of Chillicothe and Russell (Eleanor) Smith of Chillicothe.
Also surviving is Nancy Cook, whom he lived with for many years, and her children, Justin (Glenda) Miller and Wes (Stacy) Miller and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Greg Smith and Mathew Smith, Sr.
Dick, along with his father, owned and operated several gas stations within Chillicothe from 1954 to 1974. He also worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for several years and ITI for twenty years. He also had has own carpentry business for many years. He drove school bus for Chillicothe Schools.
He was a member of the Peoria Casting Club and Lacon Country Club. He was the founder and first president of the Chillicothe Historical Society and a past alderman for City of Chillicothe.
Dick enjoyed bowling sixty years in Brothers tournament in Peoria and was the first to bowl a 700 series in Chillicothe.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 54.
A memorial service will be held on August 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. Rev. Raymond Harrison will officiate. Burial will be held at the Chillicothe City Cemetery with Military Rites. Memorials may be made to Rescue 33.
