Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church. Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate. 3rd Degree members of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 3:45 P.M. Fourth Degree members of the Streator Assembly 2109 Knights of Columbus honor guard will be present at the visitation and will accompany Frank to the church.
Private burial will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Born June 18, 1944 in Vider, Texas he was the son of Mike and Jane Ann (Alderman) Ryan. He married Mary Witmer on June 19, 1965 at St. Anthony Church, Streator. She survives in Streator.
He is also survived by a daughter Amy (Mark Ferko) Ryan of Streator; a son Michael (Roseanne Crosser) Ryan of Paris, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kayla Ryan, Katty Ryan, Cory Ryan; and Cody Kennedy; sisters, Pat (Don) Kmetz of Tustin, California and Mary Jane (Larry) Wilkinson of Streator and a brother, Mike (Gerry) Ryan of Casa Grande, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by a son, Frank Ryan II.
Frank lived most of his lifetime in Streator. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1962. He also graduated from Barber College in 1964.
He worked as a barber in Streator for 2 years. He later became a Pipefitter through Union Local 81 (Ottawa) and Local 597 (Chicago). He retired from Local 597.
He formerly had belonged to Immaculate Conception Church, St. Stephen’s Church and St. Anthony of Padua Church. He currently was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was very active with his church serving as a Eucharistic minister and Altar server. He was involved with the Cursillo and Watch teams and various other parish positions. Through the years he also coached basketball, baseball and track and St. Stephen’s Grade School.
He was a member of Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the 4th Degree Assembly #2109 of the Knights of Columbus. He was past Grand Knight of Streator Knights of Columbus Council # 790. Frank was very involved with the Knights of Columbus on both a state and local level serving in many different positions which included, State Warden, Faithful Navigator (4th Degree), District Deputy, State Membership Director, State Squires Chairman and Knights of Columbus Past President for the Peoria Diocese.
He also received the Knights of Columbus State Medallion and the Knight of Night award for the Peoria Diocese.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing and especially cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.
Frank was a devoted family man who was cherished by his family. He was devout in his faith and service to his church and community. He will be missed by the many people that he impacted through the years.
