Walter E. Lelm, 91, of East Peoria, passed away at 6:05 pm on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.
He was born on March 28, 1921 in Turtle Lake, N.D. to Otto and Mary (Volmers) Lelm. He married Florence E. Danz on June 20, 1942 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2007 in East Peoria. His parents, six brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda (John) Keys of Metamora and Patricia (Steve) Zimmerman of East Peoria, IL, six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Walter served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked as a welder of over 31 years with Caterpillar Inc. retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Peoria and was a member of the American Legion Post 1115 in Springbay.. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Bill Dohle will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
