William Walter "Odie" Corrie, 93 of Dwight died at 7:05 am Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Heritage Health, Dwight.
Visitation will be 8-10 am Friday, July 6 at the Dwight United Methodist Church with funeral services following at 10 am. Rev. Lance Leeds will officiate with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery, Dwight.
Mr. Corrie was born October 15, 1918 in Terra Haute, Ind., the son of Harrison and Josephine Woodruff Corrie. He married Ella E. Jenkins March 5, 1941.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Ella, Dwight, daughters, Lana Carole (Gary) Reed, Princeville, Barbara A. (Gene) Mortensen, Dwight, Jo E. (Ron) Regenold, Pontiac, Christine Deborah Harrington, Dwight; sons Kenneth Michael (Deanne) Corrie, Mattoon, Keith Mark (Jeane) Corrie, Heyworth; sister, Hazel (Dave) McKinney, Peoria; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren;
Bill is preceded in death by 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and 1 great grandchild.
He was a high school graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria and
was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church.
He was retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria, Joliet, and Morton. Upon retirement he worked at Jensen Amoco, Feddersen Garage and was a school bus driver.
Bill was a member of the Grundy County Civil Defense, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Loyal Order of Moose, starting the Dwight Lodge.
He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America and had earned a Letter of Recognition for his work with the Dwight Youth Baseball.
Bill was a long time member of the Dwight High School Football Chain Gang, served many years as Little League Coach and Commissioner of Dwight Youth Baseball and was founder of the famous "Odie Burgers".
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping and his daily visits with his friends in the Dwight area.
Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice, the Dwight United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
