Peoria- Samuel Lee Bowden, 56, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 5:30 pm at his residence. A memorial service will be from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 04, 2012 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington with Rev. Toby Carlos officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to the family. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
Samuel Lee Bowden was born on October 27, 1952 in Bloomington to Sterling Kellem and Queene Pate.
He is survived by his son: Derrick Miller of Largo, FL; his daughter: Kristin Ibrahim of Chicago; his mother: Queene Pate; his brothers and sisters: Conzelouis Pate, Willie Pate, Otis Pate, Jimmie Pate, Louise Houston, Hatti-Penny Pate; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Samuel was preceded in death by his brothers Hamilton Pate, Robert Pate, and his aunt Mary Johnson.
He served in the Army during Vietnam.
He was a member of Omega PSI PHI Fraternity, and received his Masters Degree as a social worker from Illinois State University. Samuel served as a social worker in Hot Springs, Arkansas for several years.
