He was born April 4, 1927 in Hustonville, KY to Arch B. and Lillie V. (Turpin) McWhorter. He married Ruby P. Stewart on December 2, 1946 in Canton, who later passed away in 1975. Irrie later married Peggy D. Pollitt on October 15, 1976 in Canton. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Kim (John) Harms of Cullom, Marla (Mark) Reneau of Canton, and Kelly (Ed) Elson of Canton; six grandchildren, Amy (Tyson) Smith, Amanda Reneau, Eddie Elson, Shane (Amanda) McWhorter, Nikki (Kevin) Briggs, and Devin McWhorter; and two great-grandchildren, Jake and Katie Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Judy Elaine Jacobs and Paul Edwin McWhorter; three brothers; and one sister.
Irrie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during World War II. He spent his life working as a bricklayer and was a 50 year member of the Bricklayers Union. He was a member of the Consistory Shriners of Illinois, Canton Oddfellows, Fulton County 40 et 8 Voiture 812, a former member of the Canton Moose Lodge, a 50 year member of the Canton Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Canton American Legion Post 16, and a member of the First Christian Church in Canton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at First Christian Church in Canton, with Revs. Glenn and Nina Nestlerode officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with Masonic Rites beginning at 7:45 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Canton Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund or to the First Christian Church in Canton.
