PEKIN ~ Dominick Calvetti, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at Timbercreek Rehab & Health Care in Pekin.
Born June 3, 1924 in Panama, IL to Frank and Eugenia (Moroni) Calvetti, she married Geraldine T. Davin on May 27, 1943 at Palmyra, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gene Calvetti of Manito; four grandchildren, Stefani Stella of St. Louis, MO, Steven (Cathy) Stella of East Peoria, Drew Calvetti of Milwaukee and Kent Calvetti of Pekin and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Stella of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his one daughter, Tera Lee Stella Calvetti on June 18, 2010 in Pekin and three sisters, Louise Calvetti, Catherine Guidi and Irma Doty.
Dominick was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theater.
He worked for Middle States Telephone Company and later for Central Telephone Company for a total of 31 years before retiring. He served as plant engineer for 18 of those years. He then worked for more than 10 years at Executone in Peoria. Dominick enjoyed working because he liked to meet people.
He was a 52-year member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he was a former Sunday school teacher for the Junior High School class.
He was a proud member of the N.R.A. and will be remembered as an all around good guy. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was very much a family person and always liked helping out his family.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Private graveside services will be held in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
