Joseph R. “Joe” O’Neill, 71, of Peoria peacefully passed away on Friday August 31, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Peoria to Joe and Leatha O’Neill. He married Ann Domnick-Largent on December 9, 2000, she survives. Also surviving are his two sons, Patrick (Nicole) O’Neill of Peoria, Joe (Kathleen) O’Neill of Peoria; one brother, Patrick O’Neill of Peoria; one step-son, Dustin (Julie) Largent of Kenmore, WA; one step-daughter, Nicole (Nate) Cox of West Peoria; one grand-daughter, Courtney O’Neill; one grandson, Keegan O’Neill; two step grand-daughters, Heather Hamilton and Lucy Cox and one step-grandson, Cooper Largent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Leatha O’Neill. Joe graduated from St. Bernard’s grade school in 1955. He went to Spalding High School, graduating in 1959 and then attended Eastern Illinois University. Joe was in the Army Reserves from 1962 to 1964 and then worked as a sheet metal worker for Local One, retiring in 1990. He was of Christian faith. He looked forward every month to his “Spalding Luncheon” at Ludy’s with many of his high school buddies, some of whom also went to grade school with him. Joe could tell a joke like no other and loved his family and extended family dearly. He enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the “angels” at OSF Hospice and all of our wonderful friends and Longbow neighbors who did so much to help us during this difficult time. Joe requested no funeral services be held. Cremation has been accorded and a private family burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials for Joe may be directed to either American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or the Disabled Vets.
