George D. Kemper Jr., 86, of Topeka, passed away at Mason District Hospital in Havana at 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012. He was born April 29, 1926 in Pike County, IL to George D. and Ellen Sara (Lindsey) Kemper Sr. He married Lora M. Doyle on July 13, 1945 in Pittsfield, IL. She preceded him in death on October 12, 1978.
Mr. Kemper is survived by five children, David Kemper of North Carolina, Victoria (Charles) Richardson of Manito, Craig (Donna) Kemper of Southern Illinois, Rhonda (Dean) Eitenmiller of Manito, Kevin (Susan) Kemper of Green Valley, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas Kemper of South Pekin and Jack Kemper of Roodhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Margaret, three brothers, William, Robert and Louis, son Michael Kemper and daughter Pamela Kemper.
Mr. Kemper was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Manito. He was a member of the Chataqua Sportsman’s Club and a former member of the VFW. He served in the US Army during WWII. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1985.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito, with visitation two hours prior to the services. Burial will follow the service at St. Frederick’s Catholic Cemetery in Manito. Fr. David Whiteside will officiate.
