CREVE COEUR ~ Adele K. Denny, 90 of Creve Coeur passed away at 2:38 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 at her home.
Born December 18, 1921 in New Athens to George and Kathryn (Steiger) Leipold, she married James J. Denny on October 12, 1941 in Kahokia, MO. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1996 in Creve Coeur.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sylvester Leipold and two sisters, Alice Bono and Mary Alsene.
Surviving are one son, Jimmy L. "Skip" (Joy) Denny of Creve Coeur; one daughter, Diana L. (Edward) Johnson of Peoria; two grandsons, James M. (Jennifer) Denny of Chillicothe and Donald J. (I Yung) Denny of Aurora; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Rash of Bloomington and one brother, Lorrain (Eula) Leipold of Bloomington.
She had worked for the State of Illinois for 26 years in the Department of Mental Health Dietary Department at the Peoria State Hospital, then for Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria, retiring in 1996. Prior to that, she had worked for Gale Products in Galesburg, building Evinrude motors.
Adele was a member of Celestial City Chapter #333 of the Order of the Eastern Star and Victoria Chapter #83 White Shrine, both in Pekin. She had been a member of First Assembly of God Church in Pekin.
She loved cooking, enjoyed bowling, working in her yard and gardening.
Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Dwight Winnett will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
