Farmington – Donald J. Roberts, 67, of Farmington, IL passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 1:30 am at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born December 14, 1944, in Canton, IL the son of Donald L. and Verda M. (Toomer) Roberts and married Carol Reed on May 8, 1966 in Farmington.
She survives along with two daughters, Ann (Rick) Riccioni and Jennifer Roberts both of Farmington; four grandchildren, SA(SU) John S. Henderson Jr., Hunter Henderson, Erica Riccioni, and Aly Roberts; one brother, Sheldon (Sharyn) Roberts of Canton; and one sister, Verda Jean Roberts of Farmington.
His father preceded him in death.
Don was a Millwright in the Wire Mill at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville, retiring May 1, 2010 after 45 years of service.
He was a 1963 graduate of Lewistown Community High School and enjoyed gathering at the annual fish fry with classmates. He was instrumental in setting up the Bryant Grade School Reunion in 2011.
He was an avid fan of Bradley basketball.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Farmington Moose Lodge #1571, and Chicago Cub Boosters. He was a lifetime member of Peoria Motorcycle Club and American Motorcyclist Association. Don coached girls softball in Farmington in the 1980’s.
Don’s life reflected his devotion and loving commitment to his family. He carried great pride for his grandchildren and respected and cherished each of them for the people they were becoming. He had a passion for motorcycling and never passed a chance to ride.
Services will be Monday, November 26th at 10:00 am at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington where visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25th from 2 to 4 pm. Rev. Jessica Baldyga will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington.
Memorials may be made to Farmington Rescue Squad or Christmas Hope Chest.
