Cuba- Everett A. “Sonny” Lofftus Jr. age 72, of 12127 E. Country Mile Rd., passed away at 7:15 AM Friday November 30, 2012 at his home. He was born June 24, 1940 at Macomb, the son of Everett and Mildred (Michaels) Lofftus Sr.. He married Betty Sprinkle on November 25, 1962. She died April 16, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. He married Carol Henderson on August 6, 2005 and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter Linda (Brant) Taylor of Steger, 3 step children, Gregory Rowe, Jeanne Rowe, and Kristofer (Nikki) Rowe, 1 sister Marjorie Wallace of Lexington, KY, and 2 grandchildren Kale & Jaden Rowe. Everett grew up on a grain and livestock farm near Swan Creek. He started his education in a 1 room school then attended public school in Roseville. After the death of his mother when he was 16, he and his father agreed he could become a truck driver. Sonny drove semi trucks for the next 46 years, retiring in 2004. He trucked all 48 states in the continental USA and into Canada, & Mexico. He also drove locally for Hicks gas and worked as a farm hand. In 1978 he joined Cuba ESDA as a storm spotter and since 2008 has spotted storms from his porch. He was also a member of the Cuba Lions Club, and had served as an election judge in Joshua Twp. for many years. Sonny also served on as a Putman Twp. trustee. He was on the board of directors for the Cuba Senior Center. After retirement he also became a driver for his Amish neighbors driving to Wisconsin, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Michigan for weddings, and funerals etc. He loved driving and listening to his neighbors sing hymns. Sonny’s family always came first and he truly enjoyed his family, kids, grandkids, grand dogs & grand cats. Sonny also enjoyed riding his ATV and he rode with the Red Neck ATV group. He will be missed by his dog Evy and his cat Percy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday December 5, 2012 at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Kenneth Harris officiating. Burial will be in Industry City Cemetery at Industry. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday December 4, 2012 at the memorial home.
