Gene Sathoff, 59, of Atterberry, passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2012. He was born on December 23, 1952 in Springfield, IL, the son of Edward and Mercedes Sathoff. He married Wendy Potter on January 6, 1970.
Gene is survived by his wife Wendy; his sons, Charlie (Nicole) and Josh (Crystal), all of Oakford; his grandsons, Jacob, Kyle, Tyler and Nathan, all of Oakford; his parents, Ed and Mert, of Atterberry; a sister, Susan (Dennis) Walker of Havana; a brother, Wayne (Esther) of Pawnee; his auction buddy, Jenna Rae McHenry; his special friend and caregiver, Debbie Smith; and several nieces and nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Boyd “Tot” and Elsie Sathoff and Henry and Annabell Golliher.
Gene was a 1970 graduate of PORTA High School. He loved being a truck driver and drove over the road for many years for S&H Trucking in Greenview. He also farmed for Steve Allen for 11 years and drove for several local companies, including his last job at Lincoln Land FS.
His favorite past times were going to auctions, animal sales, and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Visitation for Gene will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 6 to 8 pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Cremation rites will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
