Sgt. Tyler W. Ziegel age 30 of Washington, Illinois formerly of Metamora, Illinois passed away at 2:14am Wednesday Dec. 26, 2012 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria. He was born Oct. 16, 1982 in Peoria to Jeffrey W. and Rebecca J. (Waterworth) Ziegel.
Surviving are his parents of Metamora, and one brother Zachary (Holly) Ziegel of Washington. Grandmothers, Doris Waterworth of Metamora and Marilyn Ziegel of Peoria, and grandfathers Kenneth (Barbara) Waterworth of Alabama, and Wayne (Katherine) Ziegel of Texas.
Ty graduated from Metamora Township High School in 2001 earning Vo-Tec student of the year. He graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in Feb 2002, and was assigned to Charlie Company Engineers in Peoria IL. He deployed to Iraq in 2003 and again in 2004 where he suffered severe combat injuries earning the Purple Heart. He spent the next 19 months recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center. He was always very proud of being a Marine. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends; working on his rural property, with visions of a new home with his beloved dogs Dobbs and Marshall; riding his Harley trike, heavy metal music; and was an avid collector of guitars and guns. He was an member of Operating Engineers Local 649, NRA, and the American Legion. He was of the Christian faith.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday Dec. 31, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel with Rev. Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4pm at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded after services.
