East Peoria, IL – Walter Henry Schlag, 87, of East Peoria, passed away at 8:06 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born June 21, 1925 in Peoria, IL to George John and Anna Marie (Trautmann) Schlag. They both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Richard (Rose) Schlag of Peoria, AZ, Bill (Carolyn) Schlag of Pekin; 6 nieces and nephews, Alice (Paul) Bahnfleth, Carolyn (Bill) Zimmerli, Marilyn (John) Erbentraut, Alan Schlag, Linda (Rick) Hunt, Lori Rauch; and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Walter attended Eureka College in the early 1950’s. He worked as a landscaper, owning Cloverdale Nursery in East Peoria. He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran. He served as a torrent gunner on 6 missions in Europe. He was a member of the East Peoria VFW Post #2078.
Cremation has been accorded. Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, with Rev. Kurt Mews officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before services on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will be in the veterans section at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria at a later date.
